Mawenzi Hut

 

Mawenzi Hut lies on Marangu Route and has great views of Mawenzi's peaks. There is little or no vegetation here and it is cold.
 
Crossing the Saddle a gentle easterly walk leads to Mawenzi Hut (at 4600m). This hut is below the west face and has water 1hr away. To the north the north-west corrie is bounded to by the Oehler Ridge. To the north of this ridge lies the Oehler Couloir which was the route of the first climbers.

  We said goodbye to our fantastic crew at breakfast, with Kili standing majestically in the background blanketed again in a fresh layer of snow. The final hike down on Day 6 was not too bad. We had a celebratory Kilimanjaro Beer at the lunch stop, and we all felt quite energised. I ran the last 9km. Well maybe that's a bit of an exageration!
