Arrow Glacier Camp

Here the vegetation has mostly disappeared, leaving only black and brown rock and scree . The campsite is seriously cold and you will need to be well prepared.

Note that the Arrow Glacier has receded significantly and is no longer an issue on the ascent.

The Western Breach has had some major rock-falls, one which destroyed Arrow Glacier hut, another Lava Tower hut, and one in January 2006 killed several people. As result the Western Breach route was closed for some time.

Note that 95% of the deaths on Kilimanjaro have been clients either over-nighting at the Crater and the ascent via Arrow Glacier Route and Western Breach. Once on the route there is no way back. If you become sick the guides and porters will have to carry you to the summit and descend via Barafu. So you see why this route is dangerous.
