Nguru Mountains

The Nguru Mountains are a seldom-visited part of the Eastern Arc Mountains as they are very steep and relatively inaccessible - as a result, hiking here is challenging and only for those physically fit and up for the challenge! The Nguru Mountains are home to a large variety of bird, reptile and plant species, including several endemic species found only here. The Ngurus are situated near to Turiani and Bagamoyo. They can be visited in combination with the Uluguru Mountains, the Rubeho Mountains or the Ukuguru Mountains, or alternatively with Sadaani and Mikumi National Parks.

Access to the is easiest via Turiani or Muscati villages. There are lodges in the forest so you must be prepared to camp. This is a true hiking adventure and camping in the middle of the forest adds an undefinable edge to the experience. The steep climbs are well worth it for the beautiful unspoilt forest you will find in the middle of the Ngurus. You will climb through changing forest into an alpine zone of heather and lichens, with absolutely spectacular scenary.
