Northern Circuit -> Mount Kilimanjaro -> Marangu Route

Marangu Route

Marangu is the easiest route to take to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa with its two main summits: Mawenzi at 5149m, and the glaciated Kibo, 5896m.

The Marangu route takes you at a through several different habitat zones. From summit rock and glaciers, screes, boulder fields, afro-alpine moorland to forests and cultivated foothills.

To reach Uhuru Peak from Kibo Hut a very early start is usual since the scree is much easier to climb when frozen. Views from the crater rim at dawn can be amazing.

Walking poles are useful when crossing scree to the summit.

You will sleep in comfortable huts where you will require a sleeping bag.

An extra day for acclimatisation can be spent at Horombo Hut
