Zanzibar Beaches

The endemic monkey the Red Colobus can be easily seen in Jozani Forest, near Stone Town - a wonderful day excursion where you can walk through the forest and enjoy the lush greenery while being surrounded by monkeys in the trees and on the ground. En route you can stop at Zala Park, a locally-run reptile park where the friendly Zanzibari guide will show you chameleons, a range of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, and many other animals. If you are brave you may even get to hold them!

Then of course there is the historical and cultural aspect of the island. Zanzibar has a long and checkered history and evidence of this is everywhere. Ancient Stone Town makes for an excellent introduction to the history of the island, and day trips to Prison Island and the Spice farms will give you an insight into the history and culture that has produced this remarkable place.
