What To Pack For A Kilimanjaro Hike

You will be sent a complete Kilimanjaro Expedition Kit List when you book.
General advice is - "There is no such thing as Too Cold. There is only Wrong Clothes". A quote from an Estonian client who, needless to say was very well prepared for the blizzard he experienced!  Layer on top of layer of Fleece will keep you warm.  Fleece dries quickly, it's light-weight, and is now available cheaply. You do not need expensive designer gear, just good quality.

MK Safaris does not rent out personal equipment that you might require.  There are several hire shops in Moshi Town, so if you do not want to bring absolutely everything with you from home, then you can hire locally on arrival.

If you let your agent know in advance what equipment you would like to hire (include your size information) then they will be able to source the best equipment available and bring several options for you to choose from, at your Pre-Climb Breifing.

Note that MK does not recommend hiring boots for the hike. We suggest that you bring a trusted pair that you are used to hiking in. Or buy a new pair a few months in advance and spend plenty of time walking them in.  The last thing you want to do is spend your time patching up your blistered feet.  Some people do turn up in brand new boots, and have to quit the hike because their feet become such a painful mess they can barely walk.

"My friends and I went to Kili as well with MK Safaris in early 2008, and I agree with climbingkili - they are absolutely fantastic. Our guide, Caspar, made the trip a real pleasure.

We said goodbye to our fantastic crew at breakfast, with Kili standing majestically in the background blanketed again in a fresh layer of snow. The final hike down on Day 6 was not too bad. We had a celebratory Kilimanjaro Beer at the lunch stop, and we all felt quite energised. I ran the last 9km. Well maybe that's a bit of an exageration!
