Zanzibar
Zanzibar is an ideal relaxing end to a Tanzania safari. Historic Stone Town with its narrow streets and bustling, aromatic markets is complemented by beautiful white sand beaches and relaxed beach resorts.
We recommend a that couple of days be spent in and around Stone Town before moving on to the beach for at least 3 nights. There are many activities to undertake from Stone Town, for example a visit to Prison Island (where you will see giant turtles), Zala Park Reptile House, Jozani Forest with its endemic Zanzibar Red Colobus monkeys and mangrove walk. If you wish you can also visit Kazimkazi on the southern tip of Zanzibar where lucky visitors can sometimes swim with dolphins.
From the beach there is a wealth of diving and snorkeling excursions depending on where you are. Both east and west coasts are all idyllic white sandy beaches, and there is a massive range of accommodation available to suit every budget. It is also possible to hire a dhow for a sunset cruise or fishing trip.
It is also possible to visit the less developed Pemba and Mafia Islands if you prefer.
